"Humble Homes, Simple Shacks" NEW book cover- your opinion?

Here’s one possible cover (ROUGH DRAFT!) for the 2012 (Feb 1st- but ALREADY OUT on pre-order for only $11.53) NEW EXPANDED edition of my book “Humble Homes, Simple Shacks”. Not sure if I’m really allowed to share these- but I guess I will until the publisher asks me to take them down. Hell, its mostly my art and photos anyway, and more so, any feedback from you guys would be appreciated.

Again- the book’s going to have MANY designs and sketches that aren’t in the existing d.i.y. version (sold from my basement- a small amount left- its no longer in stores though), a large color photo insert section/gallery of many things that I, and others, have built in the realm of tiny houses and shelter, and a “designing YOUR tiny house” section with input from interviews I’ve done with Lloyd Kahn of Shelter Publications, Jay Shafer of The Tumbleweed Tiny House Company, Duo Dickinson (Architect, Yale Professor, Author), Cathy Johnson (Author, Artist, Tiny House Owner), Dee Williams (Head of Portland Alternative Dwellings), Alex Pino (Tinyhousetalk.com), Kent Griswold (Tinyhouseblog.com), Gregory Paul Johnson (Founder of The National Small House Society), Tammy Strobel (rowdykittens.com and downsizing guru), Mimi Zeiger (Author, Writer for Dwell and Readymade Magazines), Alex Johnson (Shedworking.co.uk, and author of “Shedworking”), Colin Beavan, aka “No Impact Man” (author, and documentary film maker), Michael Tougias (Cabin Owner/Author) and more!
The book also has a new intro piece that was written by two designers/authors that have been very influential to me, David and Jeanie Stiles- their books “Cabins”, “Rustic Retreats”, and “Sheds”- are fantastic!
Anyway, I can’t wait for you guys to see some of the new designs, photos, and ideas- all of which I’ve worked very long and hard on. I feel alot of the new sketches are FAR better than the old ones too.

I’d Definitely appreciate your support if you picked up a copy on pre-order, as basically, the publishing house, and stores, indies, chains all base how many books they order and offer/shelf- based on pre-order numbers- so it’d def help me out.

Another Rough Draft of a possible option- the “old” cover- simply colorized

Thanks for your time! Here’s the link if you’d like to reserve a copy….(With its current, temporary, placeholding cover)

Deek- Like the hand drawn cover better; more in keeping with the spirit of humble, simple, cozy, ramshackle, and funky.

I agree with Mr. Wiese: your hand drawn is far better. Also, you may want to look at this book called Hand Job: it might show you cleaner solutions for drawing typography. Good luck!

Me too. I much prefer the hand drawn cover.

Been following your designs for a little while now and I love them. If I had my own space and yard to build them I would certainly do so. I love the hand drawn look of your previous book. However my personal opinion with the cover is to ditch the round corners on the images, change the font and font colors to something easy to read so people will notice it on the shelves.

That being said, I love your hand drawn sketches, they remind very much of zines and even the vw manual: A Manual of Step by Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot. Here is one of the amazing illustrations in the book.

I like the newer cover. It convinced me that there would be color photos that I could ohh and ahh over. I'm sure I will enjoy your sketches also, but I started to pre order your book then canceled worried that I would not have enough photos. Then I seen the new cover and ordered the book. I've always told my salesmen trying to sell me products at the liquor store that I work at that pictures sell me more than just telling me what they have. So there you have it from this woman's perspective! Love your videos, you are hilarious without getting stupid. Thanks, and can't wait to receive my book! Patty Squirell
