Now THIS is a Shantyboat!- giving new meaning/life to the SNL Matt Foley/Chris Farley line “Livin’ in a van down by the river!”. I always wanted to do the same with a car- but hoisted up into a tree- the body/shell being the walls of a small treehome/tiny house- and I’m glad to see someone else is on the same demented wavelength.
I’m sure neighbors would HATE this thing being near their homes on the river, but the idea is great- comical as well.
We have lots more shantyboat/tiny dock house/houseboat/floating home photos on the way, by means of a photo gallery I’ll soon be posting…
For those new to the blog, my book (lefthand column) has a shantyboat concept/design or two- as well as many ground/small home/shelter designs and plans that can easily be incorportated/transfered into water living/versions.

I saw this photo about a year ago, My worry is with the weight of the steel van body up high like that is the whole boat rolling over. It’s not like it’s sitting on the ground… Water moves. I had thoughts about doing something like this with a large boat hull I have… The hull is 40 feet long and 11 feet wide at the water line. Much better suited for putting a van body on then a 20 to 25 foot hull.

I had toyed with the idea of making molds so you could make fiberglass body panels and do something like that… But never got around to it or found a van with a clean body to make molds from…. Hey I know someone with a really clean VW bay window bus…
