Here’s a cool little blog on two women building their back-to-the-land dream house from a huge array of free and recycled materials. http://www.builtfromtrash.com hasn’t been updated in awhile, but the story is still intriguing. It looks like they’ve built a cool/cozy little homestead too.
Here’s the project and site’s aim, in the words of its authors:
Our blog tells the tale of how we built a tiny house using as construction materials, old tires, newspapers, bottles, used lumber, scrap metal and a free house trailer. When we bought the land, we were in our early 50s. As of this writing (May 2010) we’ve been at it for 5 years and are now 55 and 56 respectively.
The duo also chose to build/live in West Virginia because of the state’s natural and untouched beauty. (I’ve been there on tour with a band long ago, and it is true. I’ll make a bet that West Virginia land comes cheap too!)
